My Photography Thesis (for those who missed it)

Well, I can’t believe I am saying this, but my thesis exhibition is done and over with.  This week flew by so quickly!  I know there are a lot of people who were unable to make it to the show, so I have promptly uploaded my work to my portfolio so you can see what I have been up to this semester!  My portfolio has my original images and a few installation views.

A lot of people have asked me what is next.  For now, I am going to take a short break from conceptual photography to give my mind a rest.  I have a ton of ideas for some design projects that I would like to do on my free time.  I’m also open to freelance work, and some of my current/future freelance projects include: a logo design for an African safari company, wedding photography, portraits, etc.  For my own work, I recently purchased an antique film camera that I’ve been dying to play around with.

The thing that I am most excited about with A Quarterlife Crisis is the ability to continue this work.  As we all know, I’m going to be in the “quarterlife” stage for years to come, so I definitely intend to continue this work little by little as years go by.

This summer begins the job hunt.  I’ll be staying in Bloomington to continue working as a Design Assistant at IU Creative Services, and waitress at the Comedy Attic through August.  I have plans to build/design an ACTUAL website (I’m done with this 3rd party hosting business), and redesign/update my resume.  My goal is to work as a designer at a firm in Chicago by this fall, so I have a lot to do to build up a design portfolio to get me there.  I’d eventually like to be an art director someday!

  1. I came across your website a few weeks ago as I was googling something along the lines of “BFA thesis exhibition postcard” and found your photographs to be very interesting. I have been going back every now and then to hopefully see the installed work in your show. Sounds kinda creepy… but I’m really not. Haha. I’m a BFA student too and was just curious to see how you were going about making postcards, etc. By reading your last post it sounds like your show went well. I’m having mine in 2 weeks, sharing the gallery space on campus with 2 other students. So I’m looking forward to that. Oh yeah, I liked your typography project, using that line from The Office. And I see that you favorited Lotus Flower by Radiohead, another good choice. Okay, I’m done creeping you out.

    • Kyle,

You’re not creeping me out at all! I’m really happy to hear that you found my blog, and that you seem interested in what I am doing. I can relate to the stress of getting a show around, and trust me, it feels awesome to be done with it all. I’m eager to see what you have been up to as well, from one artist to another! Good luck finishing up everything! (There is light at the end of the tunnel)!
