2011 Photography Thesis
All images are (c) Valerie Leek. They were shot from Winter 2010 to Spring 2011. As you may remember, I posted a few images that I’d never shared on the web back in September… Read more…
I’m 23 now. I thought I would share some photos from my 22nd year of life that never really surfaced to anything. These were taken while completing my senior photography thesis last year.
Hi everyone! I haven’t blogged for quite some time. I’ve sort of been in the process of collecting thoughts for my next couple of posts. It has been an incredibly busy summer: applying for jobs, interning at Creative Services, waitressing at the Comedy Attic, boxing up my stuff to move out of Bloomington… gahh! The thought of even giving up this apartment is starting to become more and more of a reality, and it’s making me sad.
Well, I can’t believe I am saying this, but my thesis exhibition is done and over with. This week flew by so quickly! I know there are a lot of people who were unable to make it to the show, so I have promptly uploaded my work to my portfolio so you can see what I have been up to this semester! My portfolio has my original images and a few installation views.
Needless to say, I didn’t sleep well last night.
Today, I made the final big step in this whole process and installed my show at the SoFA Gallery this morning with the help of my roommate, Lauren. The hardest part of it all was the measuring and precision. It took about a minute to actually hang the work once the screws were in the wall. I got chills seeing my stuff finally completed, framed, and hanging. The final touch of adding the vinyl lettering with my name and exhibition title, and adjusting the gallery lighting really put the cherry on top.
This whole entire thesis thing has been the biggest trial and error experience. I have gigabytes upon gigabytes of photos that just aren’t working for me, or leaving me with an empty feeling when I finish them. I just want to put on a good show that is going to impress others, and make me happy. Why is that so hard?
Just a few photos from what I’ve been up to. There’s been a lot of ups and downs in my thoughts/ideas/images. There are still many things that I’m skeptical of… and the stress of getting an entire show together has been daunting. I’ll be printing my final images before I know it! Yikes…
